Terms of Usage

Overheard at Harvard exists as a public forum of the witty, wry, and inane snippets overheard on the Harvard campus. It is in no way intended to ostracize or otherwise harm any group or individual. These terms of usage outline the conditions under which material is regarded as acceptable to be posted on the website. Any breach in these terms will result in the quote being removed or modified; repeated violation will result in removing posting privileges from the user. Ultimately, the standard for material on the website is left to the discretion of the site administrator.

By posting material, the user verifies that:

1. He is a member of the Harvard community, in so far that he possesses a valid Harvard ID card.

2. The material was overheard on one of the Harvard campuses in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

3. The posted material does not contain any references that could be used to identify a member of the community, either by name or characteristic. The user must protect the identity of both the speaker and any third parties referenced by taking appropriate measures through changing details or omitting content.

4. The material is being posted anonymously. The user must take appropriate measures to cover his own identity should he choose to leave a signature.

5. The material is original and legitimate. Material fabricated or plagiarized by any means will be removed.

6. The material provided is posted in good faith to the mission of the site. Any posts intended to further any other cause will be removed, including but not limited to: advertisements for any service or event, messages with any overt message (political, religious, racial, etc), and any other material deemed inappropriate by the site administrator.

7. The material does not promote hatred or violence directed at any group or person on campus. The user verifies that his material is not of a prejudiced nature, especially if it handles racial or religious content.

Users are asked to report any breaches of the terms of usage by flagging quotes or contacting the site administrator directly.
